Transition California

• Local Self-Reliance for a Post-Petroleum World •

Today some activists came to Humanist Hall and one of them called for a website for volunteering. What she meant was that there should be a central place where people who have the time and energy to volunteer, and maybe even know what they want to do, could post their interest(s). Then organizations (like those in Transition East Bay) could go to that website, or Web Page, and look through it for suitable volunteers. I know there are websites of volunteers if you look for them in Google. But the advantage of having such a web page here in Transition East Bay would be that the volunteers would be more likely to be of like mind -- transitioners, progressive people working on transitioning. It would narrow down the scope of "volunteers of America" to those people interested in our cause(s). I know nothing about how to set up a web page here. Does anybody else?

There already exists a website for people interested in farming - WWOOF - willing workers on organic farms - its setup for worldwide, is this what you were looking for, or for general volunteering?

Hi Zachary,

It's great to hear about WWOOF! There can't be too many subsistence or permaculture farmers I don't think. But in my own case, what I've got here is a Humanist Church which also serves as a community center. So I'm looking for volunteers living in the Oakland area who might be interested in helping transition this one place. All of Oakland needs transitioning, of course. But maybe somebody would like to work here.

Thanks for writing!
