We are a support group for the formation of Transition Town conversations in the North County region of San Luis Obispo county. We would like to connect with people who are interested in starting Transition Town conversations in North County.

Intention

We are a group of people from Paso Robles, Atascadero and Templeton that are concerned about climate change, peak oil, and growing economic instabilities. We support the increased adoption of energy efficiency, renewable energy, a local organic food economy, smart growth, more efficient modes of transportation and other local strategies that enhance our local economy and create a more low-energy, more-localized,and more enriching future.

We would like to increase public, business and local government awareness, discussion and collaborative action to address these concerns and foster adoption of these strategies.

We are in the early stages of learning about the Transition Initiative process pioneered by Rob Hopkins in the UK which is now spreading to the US, California and San Luis Obispo County. We encourage and will support the formation of Steering Groups in various towns and communities in the North County where we live. We intend to participate in awareness raising and other Transition Initiative conversations as they take shape in the coming weeks and months.

Maggie just started Transition Paso... this ning site is good for social networking nut it may not be that great for content. thats why the content at hopedance is quite good.... tons of transition material, articles, etc and films/trailers and events, etc.... we ought to talk. your dad keeps telling me we ought to talk so perhaps this is the time.

I'm in favor of using existing tools where they work well.
What we need to look at is how well this site works as a communications hub.

Eric, if you will provide me your email address, I'll send you a paper outlining initial goals, ideas and operating principles.

Comments are a less effective way of havng a dialog, but apparently an OK way to get someones attention (e.g. mine, since I am responding).

Finally, be aware there is an active attempt by 350.org / Transition North County-ans to help get a student to Copenhagen for the Climate Conference as part of the delegation. That is being handed off by Fred Frank to my father, Ray Weymann.

It will take me a while to catch up with ongoing discussions, but in the meantime, is this an appropriate place to announce upcoming meetings, documents open for comment, etc. in which our shared values can become part of local policy?

Comment by Jim Cole on November 2, 2008 at 6:58pm: Yes, Cambria and Cayucos qualify as North County. A Transition Town discussion starting there would be great. People interested in the desalinization issue might use it as a means to raise awareness but transition is a much broader community conversation of a vision for the future in light of climate change, peak oil and other issues.

Comment by Sandi Brockway on October 31, 2008 at 8:34pm: Could Cambria and Cayucos qualify as North County? I would like to see sewer plants and dairies converted into power and composing plants. Also, we have issues surrounding a desalinization plant they want to set up here. Even if we cannot stop it, it certainly would be nice to have some input regarding the KIND of desal, given there are so many super innovative ones on the market right now, most using tidal, solar and wind power with fewer side effects. It has been super HOT in Cambria this year. I have lived here since 1976, and I have never known such heat.
