Excellent article. People will wake up as they feel the heat in their own lives. As a marriage and family counselor, I'm seeing more people coming together to support each other. Divorce doesn't make as much sense in a post petroleum era. Rather th…

Bob, Thought the show was good. To understand food in a larger context, I recommend Raj Patel's Stuffed & Starved (www.StuffedandStarved.org.) He gives a clear understanding of the relationship between the reason that 1.4 billion people in the wor…

Jed; One thing I could suggest would be to use your ning community as a means of trading and organizing among neighbors. Have a look at http://www.cosbycooperative.ning.com which is a social/trading community for prople living within 30 miles of Cosby Tennessee. Re-localization is going to require an efficient means for neighbors to trade skills and products with neighbors. Groups like Transition California could serve as umbrella groups for thousands of local groups and help people find them.

I am not a member of WELL. But some day I would like to be. Having lived in Northern California at one time and having heard about the rededication of the town, I have sort of been following its progress. I sent several people an invitation from your website. Liam showed up and at first was having difficulty signing up. I asked him if it would be more convenient if I setup the groups site for him, then made him an administrator so he could monitor the groups site. Anyone can be assigned administrative function. A good way to generate interest in your group and engage in dialog is to come up with some compelling topics using the FORUM or DISCUSSION feature. While I am here, I would like to get a much clearer logo from your group. I cut and pasted what I could find from your site, but it did not translate very well.

Bob,

It's great to have people like you connected with us. I would enjoy a group where those who have been using the Transition site and tools can suggest ways that we, who are new, could use the technology to maximum positive effect and point out possible drawbacks that we should watch out for.

Hi Jed, I signed up simply because Ive been following WELL for years and wish to stay in the loop and to let more people learn about what you have been doing for the past years. Im new to social networking. I see you asked Reingold for his input as well. perhaps we ought to start another Group with suggestions as to HOW to best use this and some success stories and some not so successful so we can bite our teeth into this new technology. good idea? I have lots of success stories, its also a matter of how often people want to stay engaged or start something or to put energy into this.. if suddenly people are getting responses from the events on this site then it will grow exponentially. Im using all sorts of means to get the message out, social networking is another one.. but the power I see in it is that there are so many incredible and powerful RESOURCES of people. We already have a wealth of writers just from this past 2 weeks welcoming people reading their profiles, etc.

One thing you could do is to try to get all the people on this site who are already associated with WELL to join the Group and see what you can do here that you arent already doing within your own communication modalities, like meeting face to face. But perhaps social networking isnt necessary for a small town like Willits who already has a blossoming and interactive and communicative community. gotta eat some thanksgiving turkey now.
gracias

Hello Jed,
I seem to run into you at the best places, like this Transitions site. I have been in Berkeley for the last month. Last time I saw you was at the WELL elections. Your comment about being available for stress counseling as times get tougher, was great. See you sooner. Reinhold
