Profile Information

How might your current work contribute to the Transition movement?
I run the Environmental Change-Makers community group in the Westchester area of Los Angeles www.EnviroChangeMakers.org Our group has been meeting for over 3 years, focused on positive enviro solutions including more sustainable urban lifestyles, power down, Permaculture ideas, and Transition ideas. We hosted Southern California's first official Training for Transition (T4T) in December 2008.
In what ways do you personally identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I'm a mom of two children growing up into this crazy oil shortage and climate disruption world. In order to gain urban security in a post-peak world we must do the work to help a wide cross-section of society understand and prepare for the Transition before us.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
In addition to being a community builder and the ongoing leader of our Change-Makers group, I'm the author of two environmental books.

_Legacy: A Story of Hope_ is a novel about the Transition time period. Filled with real permaculture ideas and power-down techniques, Legacy provides a vision of how the Transition could possibly unfold across the next four decades (more at www.LegacyLA.net)

_Environmental Change-Making: How to Cultivate Lasting Change in Your Local Community_, was released Dec 2008. It tells the story of our Los Angeles Change-Makers group -- what we do, and how we do it, so that other communities can do it too. (more at http://envirochangemakers.org/ECMg/Book.htm )
What aspects of the Transition Town movement most interests you?
You don't go from Outrageously Unsustainable Consumerism to Transition Town overnight -- it takes a long period of raising awareness, positive projects, and changing local minds one-at-a-time.

Our book _Environmental Change-Making: How to Cultivate Lasting Change In Your Local Community_ tells the story of how our local group got Los Angeles ready to consider Transition ideas. It is perhaps the "prequel" to Hopkins' Transition Handbook.

Hi Joanne and LA/Westchester. Great to see you here! We've just implemented some get acquainted questions so we CA Transition folk can all get to know each other. When you're finished introducing yourself, it would be great if you could post one or two of your local events -- even if they're local, they're news and inspiration to other communities wanting to get involved.

Again, we're delighted to see you. Ask questions, talk with people, have fun!
