Profile Information

How might your current work contribute to the Transition movement?
We are a community working together to look Peak Oil and Climate Change squarely in the eye and address this BIG question:

"for all those aspects of life that this community needs in order to sustain itself and thrive, how do we significantly increase resilience (to mitigate the effects of Peak Oil) and drastically reduce carbon emissions (to mitigate the effects of Climate Change)?"
In what ways do you personally identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
We are beating our petroleum addition step-by-step. We are not going cold turkey and moving to the country, living off a solar panel, etc. So we'd like to help get/keep the ball rolling here in the East Bay with local food production, local currency, community building, etc.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
community organizing
event planning
conflict resolution
fundraising
spreading the love
What aspects of the Transition Town movement most interests you?
We are here as a resource to support one another. We organize events, manage the website, talk to each other, educate ourselves, and wonder out loud.

I am SO sick and tired of this ning site! I HATE having to log into this site to see my messages, discussions, postings, etc. I find Facebook more user-friendly. If you feel me, click here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=82344714932&ref=ts

Transition East Bay Film potluck/film screening last night

We had a good ol' time last night at the TEB potluck plus film screening. At least a dozen new faces. All of them beautiful, smiling. Early on we kicked it in the gorgeous, huge yard in the back of Humanist Hall. Fantasies about cutting those trees down and growing food. Then we ate… Continue

Report from Film Screening "11th Hour"

Tonight we ate chips, drank wine and watched this film, which was a series of short interviews with global environmental movement stars including: Paul Hawkin, David Suzuki, Thom Hartmann, Paul Stamets, and (forgive me for not remembering the names of the following), the author of a book on biomimicry, the founder of Bioneers, the founder of Arcosanti, that guy who makes recycled carpeting, environmental writers from the NY Times and the Economist, and many others. The movie included strong talk… Continue

Hi Judith,
I don't know if this is the right place to write this, anyway, I'm eager to hear what the farmers have to say. We have PTSD here and the bullet holes that go with it so watch out for that. There have been so many aggressions on this place that our trust levels are very low so don't take things personally. One of the many cons perpetrated on us was to "help" with the gardening. It led to a lot of nightmarish situations right out of horror movies. Our lives were threatened so many times that it no longer seemed noteworthy when it happened.

Glad to hear that you are bringing something. Those yogurt fruit salads are great. I almost hijacked the last one you made and thought about sneaking it into some remote part of the property where I could have it all to myself. I don't have time to make anything, maybe I'll bring some kind of fruit.

The bike-rack-appreciation letter is a great idea. Florence is awesome at writing these kinds of things. She got five people out of prison writing letters. One of them was a young Bosnian in INS prison in Kansas City who would probably still be there if it wasn’t for her. Anyway, it would be good to come from somebody "outside" of Humanist Hall and then put in a plug for HH. Maybe Florence could write an independent letter if she is willing. The city has done a lot of rotten things to us but it's good to take the high road and be open to good behavior. One thing that excites me about the new economy is the death of the fascistic old one. (Though if I die of hunger or untreated disease, it might not be too fun). Anyway, I looked around a bit for these racks and saw more in front of the Mama Buzz coffee house on Telegraph and at the Rock, Paper, Sizzers art collective very near to Mama Buzz. It was almost like the transition community was finally starting to have a presence at city hall. It was like the city people finally figured out that they weren’t going to be able to retail or develop their way to prosperity anymore. Too good to be true.

Nobody seems to be interested in cooking here so I'll plan on opening the hall around 6pm on Weds.

Hi Judith,
Well, thanks for your appreciation -- even though my hospitality last night wasn't much. I was so exhausted from my work day that I had no energy left to socialize with when the evening came around. I hope to do better next week.

Hi Judith,
I wrote you the message below some time ago but I wrote it on my own wall instead of yours! I simply don't know what I'm doing on this website; it's over my head! Here's my message of last week:
Hi Judith,
I'm glad you found your gloves! And of course I'm glad you had a good experience at Humanist Hall! Let's do it again! I hope I'll be seeing you again on Wednesday the 11th. If you have other plans that day, there's always the next Wednesday, the 18th! We're going to start with a potluck next time. A "solar church" -- that's a nice expression. I thought about calling this place the "Live Oak Revival" too and "First Church Gaia."
Thanks for writing me!
