Hello!

One jurisdiction that connects the northern coastal watersheds with the upper Salinas River Valley is the Upper Salinas Las Tablas Resource Conservation District. However, supervisorial districts have long separated the coastal and interior regions of our North County. This could be up for re-examination when the Board redistricts the County in the wake of the 2010 census. My first thought is that the two sides of the Santa Lucias are distinct enough for the watershed to form a natural boundary, but I am open to other thoughts before forming a position on an issue that won't be decided for about a year; we have time to discuss it and hear each other out!

One thing we have in common on both sides of the divide is that from Santa Rosa Creek north, as well as in the Upper Salinas watershed, we all drain into the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. You may be aware of efforts to expand the boundary southward, as well. While watershed stewardship to protect the ocean and habitats enroute are important everywhere, they gain some special standing where a federally recognized sanctuary is involved. I am hoping the the nascent Land to Sea Advisory Committee will raise the recognition of our responsibilities in this regard; meanwhile, the Water Resources Advisory Committee will soon be recruiting to fill a new seat specific to coastal and marine protection, which to me includes watershed protection.
It is in interior areas that the most work needs to be done to raise the profile of this responsibility, since the ocean isn't visible to inland folks, and the Coastal Act policies that protect the bottom ends of coastal watersheds have no effect upstream. Whichever side of the Santa Lucias is our home, we are all in this together.

MoonstoneBob is a name picked up as a motel owner on Moonstone Beach. I do have a web site ecocoastalproperties.com but am unaware of a moonstonebob.com web site.
Just a small business person trying to make a living in my beloved Cambria and am not a member of any malicious computer thing. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I don't think it's there now.
Sending good thoughts and GREEN wishes for the future.

Thanks for the YouTube trick. Much easier, quicker, and space saving. Actually, Bob had already done the trick for me.

But thanks!

Hi Sandi,
Since you have extensive experience with computers as a community organizing tool, I am hoping you know of some communities that have created efficient computer programs to manage and coordinate carpooling systems for their areas. I am involved with the Mendocino Environmental Center in Ukiah and have been interested in helping to develope a carpool system for inland Mendocino County. Any suggestions about who to contact or a program to use? Thanks.

Hi Sandi,
Hey, thanks for responding about a "volunteer" category! I'll try to figure out how to use it. Maybe I'll be the first!

Hi Sandi,
Thanks for being in Transition! I wrote a note to Bob Banner and he said to send it to you. It's about an addition to the Classifieds.
Here's my note: Hi Bob,
I'd like to see a category on Classifieds called "Volunteers" or "Volunteer Help" or "Volunteer Services" or something llike that. That way people who wanted to volunteer for something could put their information down and people short on cash who needed volunteers could go there and look for them. I can't add a category myself. What do you think?

Sandi,

Thanks for the info on the UK site on power shifting. I'll look at it in more depth. I have found their information helpful?

Hello Sandi:

Below is a salad very tasty and excellent when having big groups of people who love beans.
SIX BEAN MARINATED SALAD
Yvonne Savio

1 can kidney beans
1 can pinto beans
1 can black beans
1 can garbanzo beans
1 can cannelloni beans
1 can green beans
1 can peas
1 can corn
1 can olives
1 large jar marinated artichoke hearts
1 bunch parsley, chopped
1 bunch cilantro, chopped
1 head celery, chopped
1/2 head green cabbage, chopped
1/2 head red cabbage, chopped
2 cups bean sprouts
2 cups spinach leaves
2 cups carrots, cut into bitesize pieces
1 cup mandarin orange segments
2-3 large garlic cloves
1 Tbsp Lawry’s Seasoned Salt
1 Tbsp oregano
1 Tbsp basil
1 cup oil
½ cup red wine vinegar
½ cup balsamic vinegar
¼ cup catsup

Empty all cans of vegetables (except artichokes) into colander, and rinse thoroughly.
In a 2-gallon-size or larger mixing bowl, mash garlic, cloves in Lawry’s salt until finely-textured paste. (More garlic flavor is released when mashed with salt, rather than chopped or minced.).
To mashed garlic, add artichoke hearts and liquid, oil, vinegars and catsup. Whisk thoroughly to combine.
Add parsley and cilantro. Mix to cover with marinade.
Add rinsed vegetables. Mix gently to cover with marinade.
Carefully remix every 15 minutes or so for about an hour, so all vegetables get coated with marinade.
Taste and add more of any ingredients to balance flavors.
Transfer into serving bowl and arrange artichoke hearts on top.
Best when served within 3-4 hours (flavors are the sharpest), or refrigerate to serve the next day (garlic and other marinade flavors will be more gently melded).

Hope you enjoy it.

Dear Sandi
It was not liposuction. I do not need it as I am already skinny from all the gardenwork and foodgrowing!
It is my 15 years old son's photography and technically way surpassing me in computerskills and computertime.
Where is the little town you are helping lead in transition? We are here in Ojai in 2nd phase as you put it. The main force coming from Roberto a young energetic Mexican man with beautiful ideas. And Ojai is knowm as a very liberal town, but young families have moved cause of the high rents here.
After my son and I were evicted because I educated and proposed solutions my landlord for saving old oaktrees on the rentalproperty which the landlord wanted to develop, we now live with my ex husband in a motorhome on a field just outside town. I love it here as we are also at the border of National Forest and the garden is getting more and more beautiful with hudge sunflowers , calendula, allysum, coriander, favabeans, geraniums blooming right now!
Nice talking with you,
Sincerely Apolonia or Apple as my friends call me
