Profile Information

How might your current work contribute to the Transition movement?
Selling The Transition Handbook, started a Transition PORTAL (http://www.hopedance.org/cms/content/view/535/1)creating listservs, launching the Transition CA site with the help of Les Squires, am involved in the SLO County steering group, living in an intentional community / farm that is transitioning to more and more sustainable practices, publishing HopeDance Magazine which has been involved with transitional ideas and practices for 12 years, screening films about sustainable agriculture, permaculture, natural building, peak oil solutions, globalization / localization, etc.
In what ways do you personally identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
Why? its a movement that appears to include every aspect of sustainability, regenerative principles, humor, positive thinking, a sense of the spiritual/sacred. The focus on the LOCAL has been very important to me, with support of the local, creating and funding local resources, creating local currencies and easing out of the comfort zone of globalization with all its various seductive forces to keep us asleep.
What background and skills do you bring to this community?
Publishing, screening films, writing, facilitating conversations / dialogues, creating events, networking, a diverse perspective of how many sectors in society need to participate in the transition movement, not just agriculturally but philosophically and psychologically. Once those basic foundational roots can accept resilience and transitional models, the others will follow more smoothly.
What aspects of the Transition Town movement most interests you?
By participating in activities like this and being more of a messenger to very effective information as well as a wealth of re-skilling models and activities and encouraging the conversation about personal and consciousness change in the movement.

Hello!

I still haven't figured out why such and such comment goes here while such and such comment goes there. I thought the question was addressed to me, and am not sure why some of my comments end up in different threads than I intended, but am, in any case, very glad that Atascadero administration is in such capable hands. At least, Atascadero administration on this site; relative to the administration of the community as a whole, we have our work cut out for us!

Hello!

Thanks for thinking of asking me to be Atascadero administrator! Actually, I am very new to this site, and don't feel ready to step into an "administrative" role, especially since, while I'm a rather active Atascaderan, most of my civic involvements are on countywide committees and issues. Let me get to know this site better, and better understand how it functions and what an "administrative" role might entail, before I commit to such a thing! Hello out there! Any Atascaderans more seasoned at being on this site ready to take on the role of administrator?

Thanks so much for the quick and warm welcome. I have to say that how I arrived here is that I was looking for a prayer to help a home purchase go through as my prayers to the Blessed Virgin of the Greater Bay Area is specific to finding parking places. Anyway, I wound up on this Christian website that had a quiz to determine what religion I am. There was a whole list of matches by % but the only one that was 100% was Secular Humanism. Having never heard of it (I'm Jewish by background, culture, and identification), I started surfing the web and reading. The 'quiz' was right on so here I am. It will take a while to complete my profile but sure feels like home.

Bob, I tried to "sort" the Paso Robles people but for country it only has "US and outlying islands" and most people have only put US, so it would not work - FYI.

Hi Bob,

Thanks very much for your welcoming email!

In response to your question...no, I haven't written a thing related to what I described in my profile. Maybe, if things calm down a bit in my practical life (it has been a particularly crazy period), I'll give it a try. Also, thanks for including the link to Hopedance website - it looks excellent.

Best,

Nick
